Reported fraud is about $16 billion at the FTC and $21 billion at the FBI. That is the floor. The FTC has said the real cost of consumer fraud can run as high as about $196 billion a year. Most people never file. They get bounced between bank, police, FTC, IC3, and the attorney general — five offices, one story, no owner, money already gone.
Education only. Not legal advice. We do not recover funds or charge a fee.

Check the state you are in. Police process, small-claims dollar limits, lawsuit deadlines, and consumer-complaint portals change by state. Find your attorney general at naag.org/find-my-ag, then search that AG site for “file a complaint.”
Pick the closest match. Then use After you file for deadlines, court, and press.
A report number is not the end of the work. Clocks are running.
A statute of limitations is the deadline to sue. It is not the deadline to report. Report now even if you are unsure about court. Deadlines vary by the state you live in and by claim (fraud, theft, consumer protection, contract). Typical civil windows are often about 2 to 4 years from the loss or from when you reasonably discovered it. Some states are shorter. Look up “[your state] statute of limitations fraud” or ask a local legal-aid clinic. Criminal charging decisions belong to prosecutors.
Treat the clock as already running. If the loss is large, talk to a lawyer in your state before the first anniversary. This site cannot tell you your exact deadline.
Press will not recover your wire. It can pressure a platform, warn the next victim, and put a public-record case in front of an editor. Lead with documents, not anger.
Scammers count on victims staying in the maze. Elected offices cannot freeze a wallet, but they can push agencies and write the one-portal rule this country still does not have.
Two Texans from Dallas got scammed, then got bounced. Bank. Police. FTC. IC3. AG. Five offices, one story, no owner. Criminals bank on that maze.
The ask: one portal. Report once. Route the case. Trigger bank and crypto freezes. Tell the victim what happens next. Make platforms own the ads they sell.
Fraud Hunter HQ is run by victims, not a recovery shop. One case we documented: Jean Craciun sold herself as a DEI leader and founder of a “Diversity Center.” A council campaign used public Democracy Vouchers. Complaints said campaign funds were billed as office rent at a personal residence. A state campaign-finance regulator found personal use of campaign funds. The hearing record is on our channels.
That file is one example of the maze — regulator, police, civil court, platforms, press — and no single front door. Mission language is not an audit. Your report still belongs in the official systems above, even if your facts look nothing like this one.
Hearing record: regulator finds personal use of campaign funds
Fraud Hunter HQ is unpaid public-education work — playbooks, records explainers, and victim navigation. Sponsorship funds hosting, records, filing fees, and time to keep the guides current. It does not buy a case outcome or a news story.
Keeps the site and the playbooks alive for a year. Logo if you want it.
Adds the how-to-file / public-records videos.
State small-claims + AG directory, kept current.
A year of operations, hearings coverage, and printed toolkits for community groups.
Sponsorship pays for hosting, records, and time. It does not buy a headline, a verdict, or a miracle wire recall. We will still tell you to file with the FTC.
For a named sponsor package, email [email protected] with the tier. Individuals can use Buy Me a Coffee or the legal-fund link on the Linktree.
We will not take money from recovery firms, “fund recovery” shops, or anyone selling a miracle unlock of stolen crypto.
